Toronto police have released video surveillance footage of a violent attack in the Entertainment District last November and are asking members of the public for help to identify a suspect.

Police say that at around 4 a.m. on Nov. 20, 2013, a 32-year-old man was out with his girlfriend celebrating her birthday in the area of King and Peter streets when she accidentally fell to the ground.

The suspect, police say, was with another group nearby who had just finished watching a soccer match at the Studio Event Theatre at 333 King St.

Police say the suspect mistakenly believed that the woman had been pushed to the ground by her boyfriend. The suspect violently confronted the boyfriend, knocked him down and kicked him in the head.

The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to hospital.

The suspect went back to the Studio Event Theatre and then fled in an unknown vehicle.

Police say the suspect has been described as Chilean or South American, five-foot-eight to five-foot-ten, with a thin to medium build. The man reportedly spoke French and was wearing a navy varsity-style jacket with white leather sleeves and the words “MMXIII The Billionaire Boys Club” written on the back.

Police say the man may be from Montreal.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Jason Shankaran or Det. Const. Julie MacInnis at 416-808-5200 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
