Toronto police have released surveillance camera images of a male suspect after a streetcar operator was punched repeatedly in the head on Queen Street near downtown late last year.

Police say that on Dec. 3, 2015, they were called to Queen Street West near Peter Street for a report of an assault.

Investigators say the 55-year-old streetcar operator was driving eastbound on Queen Street West at Peter Street when a man boarded through the front doors with a transfer in hand.

Police say the operator told the male suspect that his transfer was no longer valid and he should board the streetcar through the rear door.

It was at that time that investigators allege the male suspect reached for a stack of unused transfers in their holder near the driver’s seat.

The male suspect then allegedly punched the streetcar operator multiple times in the face and the back of his head.

He is described as a white male, with a medium build and a moustache and goatee. He was wearing a black toque, a zip-up black hooded sweater, a black backpack and jeans.
