Toronto police now say a 16-year-old will not face criminal charges after a BB gun was found in his locker at a Catholic high school in North York on Tuesday morning.

Earlier Tuesday, Const. Victor Kwong said police were called to James Cardinal McGuigan Catholic Secondary School located near Finch Avenue and Keele Street at 11:08 a.m., for a report of a student carrying what appeared to be a gun inside the school.

Kwong said the original 911 call “was not reflective” of what occurred, and the boy never carried any weapon on his person.

Police originally said three teachers and a principal tackled the student, and restrained him until officers arrived. Kwong said this was not the case. The boy was never restrained physically.

The boy was arrested but later released. Kwong said the school administration will deal with him themselves as it is not a criminal matter.
