Police are investigating whether or not a piece of concrete falling from a high-rise near Yonge and Dundas streets on Thursday morning was the result of a deliberate act.

The concrete fell from the 15-storey Hermant Building bordering Yonge-Dundas Square at around 6:35 a.m., smashing onto the ground in front of a doorway.

Nobody was injured as a result of the incident.

Police say they believe that a suspect or suspects may have entered the high-rise through an adjacent building that was under construction and then thrown a concrete tile from the roof.

Aerial footage of the scene on Thursday morning did show a tile that appeared to be missing from the roof of the building.

Police are reviewing surveillance footage from the area and looking to speak with potentital witnesses as they continue their investigation.

The Hermant Building, one of two side-by-side towers bearing the same name, was constructed in 1929 and is designated as a heritage building under the Ontario Heritage Act.
