Police say they believe a driver that fled the scene of a crash following a chase in the city’s west end early Thursday morning is also responsible for firing multiple shots at a nearby apartment building earlier in the night.

Police were called to the building in the vicinity of Jane Street and Lawrence Avenue at around midnight for multiple reports of shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers with the gun and gang task force discovered that several rounds had been fired into the building; including one that went through the window of a unit.

At around 1 a.m. officers then spotted a stolen vehicle matching the description of the one used in the shooting travelling in the Eglinton Avenue and Weston Road area and attempted to pull it over.

Police say that vehicle sped away, making contact with the cruiser as it fled the scene.

The same vehicle was then spotted in the Highway 400 and Sheppard Avenue area a short time later and sideswiped a second cruiser, police say.

According to police, the car then crashed into a construction fence on Seneca Avenue near Weston and Rogers roads and its driver fled the scene on foot.

Police say a gun was subsequently located in the vehicle.

Nobody was injured in either collision and police are continuing to look for the suspect.

The suspect is described as a black male, about six-feet tall and between 20 and 40 years old.
