A 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal Brampton crash that police say involved street racing.

Peel Regional Police say shortly before 2:30 a.m. Saturday, a 25-year-old male driver was heading down Cottrelle Boulevard when he lost control of his vehicle near Thorndale Road, crashing his black Honda Civic into a concrete pole.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and his 20-year-old passenger was taken to a trauma centre with non life-threatening injuries.

Police later said they were searching for a second vehicle that they believed may be involved in the crash and did not remain at the scene.

On Monday, Investigators say Brampton resident Robert Jason O’Brien was arrested and charged with criminal negligence causing death while street racing, criminal negligence causing bodily harm while street racing, failing to remain at the scene of an accident causing death and failing to remain at scene of an accident causing bodily harm.
