Toronto Police are searching for a 58-year-old suspect who has allegedly posed as a landlord to rent out condo units that he did not actually own to unsuspecting prospective tenants.
Investigators say the suspect has been renting condos in various parts of Toronto, securing each unit for a very short term, usually only a few days.
He then puts ads on websites such as Craigslist and lists himself as the landlord.
He has sometimes used his real name in the ads, but also uses aliases.
In each instance, the suspect lures several prospective tenants, collects rental deposits from them and then disappears as his short rental of each unit ends.
Investigators have identified the suspect as Robert Charles Reid of no fixed address.
He has also gone by the names Lee Walder and Brad Lawson.
