Peel Regional Police have increased their presence in a Brampton neighbourhood, as they look for a male who is suspected of sexually assaulting two young women in separate incidents this month.

Investigators set up a command post after the most recent attack occurred along a path in Holmes Channel Park, near McLaughlin Road and Lormel Gate, on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Police said a 22-year-old woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries when she was grabbed from behind in a chokehold and sexually assaulted. She managed to fight off the suspect, who fled before police arrived.

The suspect was described as a black male in his late teens or early 20s. He was wearing a purple hooded sweater, light brown pants, black shoes and a black backpack.

Investigators believe the same male is responsible for a sexual assault that occurred in the same area and at the same time of day May 13.

In that incident, a 20-year-old woman was grabbed from behind in a chokehold as she walked along the path between Queen Mary Drive and McLaughlin Road. She was dragged into the bushes and sexually assaulted.

The suspect fled on foot when she put up a fight and the attack was somewhat interrupted by a female passerby who has not been identified, police said.

The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

After that incident, police released a composite sketch of the suspect, who was described as a black male in his late teens to early 20s and five-foot-five with a stocky build. He has a medium complexion, wide nose and black curly hair. He was clean shaven and he was wearing a hoodie, a red bucket-style hat and possibly jeans.

Det. Derek Vammus, an investigator with the police service’s special victims unit, said the suspect may live, work or go to school in the area.

In response to the incidents, police are urging people to walk in pairs or groups and be aware of their surroundings at all times.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 905-453-2121 ext. 3460 or Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
