Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating after a car rolled while being followed by a police cruiser in Mississauga early Thursday morning.

In a news release, the SIU said the eastbound Audi car was travelling at high speed on Dundas Street when it was spotted by a Peel Regional Police officer at about 2:30 a.m.

The car turned south onto Mississauga Road as the cruiser followed, and then veered off the road and crashed into a ditch.

The car's driver, a 20-year-old man, was trapped in the vehicle after the crash.

He was freed and then transported to Credit Valley Hospital to be treated for a non-life-threatening head injury, the SIU said.

A female passenger was also taken to hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Anyone who has information about the incident is asked to call the SIU’s lead investigator at 416-622-2038 or 1-800-787-8529 ext. 2038.

The SIU gets involved when police are involved in incidents where someone has been seriously injured, dies or alleges sexual assault.

This is the third time in as many days a car has crashed after fleeing police in the GTA.

On Wednesday, a driver ran away from a crash scene after fleeing police and becoming involved in a two-vehicle collision in Vaughan.

A day earlier, a pursuit ended in a two-vehicle crash in Brampton, leading to charges against a 20-year-old man.
