The province plans to speed up GO bus service between Kitchener-Waterloo and Toronto by adding shoulder bypass segments on a stretch of Highway 401.

By the end of October, the new bypass segments will be added on eastbound Highway 401 between Regional Road 25 in Milton and the Highway 401/407 interchange.

The move aims to improve GO bus service during rush hour.

The shoulder bypass segments will be in place until the completion of the Highway 401 expansion, which will include implementing High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes.

“Implementing by-pass shoulders for buses along this stretch of Highway 401 will improve reliability for bus services between Kitchener-Waterloo and Toronto,” Ontario’s transportation minister Steven Del Duca said in a statement released Monday.

“This is further proof of our government’s commitment to making the daily commute and quality of life better for Ontario families.”
