Police are searching for a suspect after an elderly woman was relieved of roughly $80,000 worth of jewelry in Scarborough last month.

The theft occurred in the Markham Road and Progress Drive area on June 17.

According to police, the 75-year-old victim was eating at a motel in the area when she left her purse unattended sometime around 9 a.m.

The woman had travelled to Toronto for a family function and had a large quantity of jewelry in her possession at the time.

She estimated the value of the stolen items at around $80,000. Details on the number and type of items taken were not provided by police.

Police released a security camera image of a suspect wanted in connection with the theft Monday morning.
