The Toronto Raptors have gained more than 80,000 new followers on Twitter since beginning their NBA playoff run, and have been mentioned on the platform more often than their current opponents.

Twitter Canada says the Raptors have been mentioned 16 per cent more often than the Cavaliers on Twitter since their best-of-seven series began.

This despite much of the American media discussing the Cavaliers as a possible league champion and the superstar status of power forward LeBron James.

The most mentioned Raptors players are Kyle Lowry (@Klow7), DeMar DeRozan (@DeMar_DeRozan) and Bismack Biyombo (@bismackbiyombo0).

Biyombo has increased his number of followers by 15 per cent thus far in the team’s playoff run.

The five most-mentioned games of the Raptors’ playoff run are all games Dwane Casey’s team won, including the seventh games of the team’s series against Indiana and Miami, the last two games against Cleveland, and Game 5 in the team’s series against Indiana.
