A vote will be held Tuesday for striking teaching assistants and graduate assistants at York University to decide whether they want to ratify their latest contract offer.

Voting will take place at the Rexall Centre between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., York University said.

The tentative agreement was announced by the union on Sunday. It includes wage increases, recognition of LGBTQ as an equity employment unit and full back pay for time on strike.

CUPE 3903 Chair Faiz Ahmed has called it a ‘historical agreement’ that will set new standards for Ontario universities.

If the deal is ratified, teaching assistants could be back on the job this week.

The strike began March 3. While most classes at the university resumed over the last two weeks, tutorials and grading have continued to be impacted by the ongoing labour dispute.
