Rob Ford said he will complete his last radiation treatment today and will soon know if doctors can perform an operation to remove his cancerous tumour.

Ford was diagnosed with a rare abdominal cancer in September and has been undergoing treatment for the past six months.

“I just want to thank everyone for their best wishes and their prayers,” the city councillor told reporters Thursday afternoon.

Once his treatment is complete, Ford said he will be heading to Montego Bay for a 10-day family vacation.

“I’ve been through a lot in the last year so I’m looking forward to spending some time with my wife and my kids,” he said.

When he returns, Ford will be meeting with surgeons to discuss the possibility of surgery.

“They are going to do an MRI and find out how big the tumour is and if it is small enough to operate, I’ll be having the operation at the end of April or at the beginning of May,” he said.

“If it is not small enough, then that is not good news so we’ll just take it one step at a time.”

The former mayor is currently raising money for charity by auctioning off some notable Rob Ford memorabilia on eBay.

Among the items Ford is selling is the football tie he wore while publicly confessing to smoking crack cocaine (the bid as of 6 p.m. Thursday was almost $7,500).

A Saskatchewan Roughriders jersey and pyjama pants he was photographed wearing while shopping at Wal-Mart are also up for grabs.
