Metrolinx says GO passengers at Union Station got a bit of a scare this morning when a raccoon, now affectionately known as Rocky, found his way on to a Lakeshore West train.

According to Metrolinx spokesperson Anne Marie Aikins, at around 7:15 a.m., a train bound for Aldershot Station had not yet departed when workers heard a passenger let out a “shriek.”

She said passengers self-evacuated after they spotted a raccoon on board.

Staff allowed the raccoon to travel solo in his very own coach to the train’s final destination, where Burlington Animal Services safely removed him.

Metrolinx staff are not quite sure how the little rascal got on board but said it doesn’t appear he chewed anything or caused any damage. He also didn’t appear to be behaving aggressively.

The coach the raccoon travelled in has been removed from service, where it will be fully inspected and disinfected.

Aikins said she could not recall a similar incident ever occurring on GO Transit.

She added that Rocky has been taken in for questioning to determine if he paid his fare.

Mayor John Tory posted a message for the raccoon on Twitter Tuesday afternoon.
