The godfather of a young girl who died in a crash involving a stolen minivan in Caledon says his goddaughter was a young, fun girl who was “full of life.”

“We went everywhere together, did everything together in the family,” the man told CTV Toronto Wednesday. “We all prayed and we always were together up until the end. We miss her deeply and we can’t bring her back.”

The man also said that the girl “had her whole life ahead of her.”

The crash happened early Tuesday morning when a stolen minivan driven by a young person careened off a roadway.

Ontario Provincial Police say a Toyota Sienna minivan was heading north on Hurontario Street when it crossed the centre median and struck an object off the shoulder of the roadway.

The girl, a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a male under the age of 16, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver has been charged with failure to comply with an undertaking, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, criminal negligence causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

He is expected to appear in court in Orangeville sometime on Friday.

Police are not identifying the girl or the young man because they are minors.
