The province’s Special Investigations Unit has been called in after a man was injured during an interaction with police in Mississauga on Wednesday.

In a news release issued Thursday, the SIU said police were called to the area of Erin Mills Parkway and Burnhamthorpe Road at around 3 p.m. for reports of a man with a weapon.

When officers arrived, they found a 24-year-old man in the parking of a Walmart in the area.

According to investigators, officers used a Taser on the man at some point during the interaction.

He sustained a head injury and was taken to Credit Valley Hospital for treatment, the SIU said.

Five investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to investigate the incident.

The SIU is an arm's length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
