The chair of the Toronto Transit Commission says she will be stepping down from the post next year.

Speaking with CP24 by phone Tuesday night, Ward 16 Coun. Karen Stintz confirmed that she would be leaving the position following the passing of the 2014 budget.

Stintz, who would like to see the position filled by Ward 15 Coun. Josh Colle, said she doesn’t want to use her position with the TTC as platform for the 2014 mayoral race.

Earlier this week, Stintz confirmed that she would be challenging current Toronto Mayor Rob Ford for the position next year.

Stintz was appointed chair of the TTC by Ford in 2010.
