Police are searching for a male suspect in his 20s after a convenience store employee was robbed at knifepoint on Monday afternoon.

York Regional Police investigators say that at about 3:20 p.m. on Monday, a suspect entered a convenience store located near the corner of Yonge Street and Weldrick Road.

He was seen walking around the aisles of the store before he approached the cash register and allegedly drew a large knife from his backpack, demanding cash from an employee.

He then went behind the cash counter and allegedly took money from the open till before fleeing the scene on foot.

The man was last seen running on Weldrick Road East.

He is described as a white male in his early 20s, with a medium build.

He was wearing a winter jacket, baseball cap and jeans. He had a backpack and was armed with a large knife.
