An 18-year-old man is facing a combined 12 charges after he allegedly assaulted a police officer and then brandished a firearm while he was being placed under arrest.

Police say that officers were patrolling a building in the Jane Street and Turf Grassway area on Monday evening when they detected the odour of fresh marijuana in a hallway and began to investigate a group of men.

At that point, police allege that one of the men assaulted an officer. When officers then tried to arrest the man, police say he fought back and reached into a satchel he was carrying and pulled out a firearm. Officers then knocked the firearm from his hand and placed him under arrest, police say.
