York Regional Police are asking witnesses to come forward after investigators say a teenage boy was thrown into a bonfire at a bush party in East Gwillimbury earlier this month.

Police say on Sept. 5 at around 1 a.m., officers were called to an area behind the Holland Landing Community Centre after receiving reports that a teen had been injured at a party.

According to police, about 150 teenagers from area high schools attended a bush party at that location and during the event a group of four men instigated a number of altercations.

During one of those altercations, police allege that a suspect threw a 16-year-old boy into a bonfire, causing him to sustain serious injuries. The teen was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the altercation to come forward with any information that might help identify the suspect.

Police also ask anyone with photos or videos of the party to turn them over to investigators.

The suspect has been described by police as a black male who is between the ages of 17 and 19. He was reportedly between five-foot-eleven and six-foot-one and had a thin, muscular build with short black hair. Police say the suspect spoke with a thick Jamaican accent.

Anyone with information is asked to call 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7141 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS.
