The 14-year-old victim of a fatal stabbing in Hamilton has been identified by friends as Jesse Clarke.

The stabbing, which occurred last night just west of Barton and Ottawa streets in Hamilton’s east end, is the city’s sixth homicide.

In a written statement, police said they were called to the neighbourhood on Aug. 18 shortly before 10 p.m. When they got there, they found the teenager suffering from a stab wound.

The victim and suspect had known each other, according to police. A dispute had been bubbling for some time and a fight broke out. Thirteen people in two groups arrived and a weapon was brought to the scene, police said.

After officers arrived at the scene, the teen was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Friends described Clarke as a nice guy who liked to skateboard but fell into the wrong crowd, according to CTV News.

Police interviewed several residents and witnesses. Forensic officers were at the scene collecting evidence.

Brodie Nicholls, 18, has been charged with second-degree murder. He appeared in court Tuesday afternoon with a gash on the left side of his neck, according to CTV, and was ordered not to contact about a dozen people.

Police do not expect to lay any more charges.
