Two high school students who were killed in a single-vehicle crash in Milton over the weekend are being remembered as “kind and compassionate” young men who were well-liked by their teachers and classmates.

The collision happened on James Snow Parkway near Esquesing Line on Sunday afternoon.

According to police, a vehicle was travelling west at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway, struck a pole and caught fire.

Faruq Anani and Dylan Stephenson, both Grade 12 students at Craig Kielburger Secondary School, were killed in the crash.

“The students here are really, really sad today,” Principal Donna Taylor told CP24 on Monday. “It is really hard. Some of the students here have been in school with Dylan since he was in kindergarten.”

Taylor told CP24 that Stephenson was a “kind, quiet young man” with a “really cool sense of humour” and a large group of friends.

As for Anani, the principal described him as a “larger than life student” who was also “kind and caring.”

“He would be the guy that jumps in the middle of a picture to get his face in your shot if you were taking a selfie,” she said.

A team of social workers from the Halton District School Board are on hand at Craig Kielburger Secondary School today to speak with students and staff who are having a hard time coping with the tragedy.

Taylor said that students are also being encouraged to write their thoughts and memories of Anani and Stephenson down in notebooks, which will eventually be given to the boys' families.

Speaking with CTV News outside the school on Monday, the girlfriend of Dylan Stephenson said she is heartbroken by his death.

“I have known him since Grade 9. He was a really nice guy,” she said through tears. “He was always caring for others. He was just so nice.”
