July 16 – Gunfire erupts at a community barbecue on Danzig Street, leaving two dead and 23 others injured. At the scene, Police Chief Bill Blair calls the incident the worst case of gun violence the city has ever seen.

July 19 - Nahom Tsegazab, who was wounded in the Danzig Street shootout, is identified as a suspect and is charged with reckless discharge of a firearm in connection with the incident. Police allege Tsegazab is a member of the Galloway Boys street gang.

July 24 - Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Toronto Mayor Rob Ford meet to discuss what can be done to combat gun crime in the city. The meeting was held at a police station blocks away from where the Danzig Street shooting occurred eight days prior.

July 26 – In light of the Danzig Street violence, Police Chief Bill Blair announces that 329 additional officers would be dispatched to at-risk communities as part of the "summer safety initiative.”

July 28 – Neighbourhood residents attend a media training session after some express concerns with how their community is being portrayed following the shooting.

August 9 – Suspect Shaquan Mesquito is charged with making threats prior to the shooting, in addition to nine other offences. At the time, police say they have no evidence suggesting Mesquito was present at the Danzig Street block party or was responsible for the violence that occurred.

Sept 2 - A 17-year-old boy, who was wounded in the Danzig Street shooting, is shot while riding his bike on Chester Le Boulevard, only escaping after the suspect’s gun malfunctions. Police eventually charge a 16-year-old boy in the shooting, saying the incident may have been retribution for the Danzig Street violence.

Sept 4 – As a result of the Chester Le Boulevard shooting, police execute a search warrant at a residence on Danzig Street, seizing a handgun and a quantity of cocaine. Avian Gooden, who police allege is a member of the Galloway Boys street gang, is charged with a number of gun- and drug-related offences.

Nov. 7 - Shaquan Mesquito appears in court on two counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder, 24 counts of aggravated assault and one count of reckless discharge of a firearm in connection with the shooting. He is remanded into custody.

Nov. 8 – Police announce the new charges against suspect Mesquito and release composite sketches of two men wanted in connection with the Danzig Street violence.

Nov. 22 -  Police announce they've charged Nahom Tsegazab with two counts of second-degree murder as well as one count of attempted murder and 22 counts of aggravated assault. Staff Supt. Greg Mclane says police have identified one of the men who was pictured in a previously released composite sketch. That man has been questioned but has not been charged. McLane maintains that detectives believe there is still one or two more shooters involved.

Nov. 27 - Funding to support "resident-developed initiatives" in the Danzig Street community is announced in a press release out of city hall.

Nov. 28 - City of Toronto announces a $150,000 donation provided over three years from local philanthropist and CEO of Desicon Group Akanimo Udofia to fund neighbourhood initiatives.
