A Toronto man has been identified as the victim of a deadly shooting that took place outside a Mississauga community centre where a birthday party was held Saturday.

Deshawn Brandon Nicholson, 23, was found with obvious signs of trauma after police responded to reports of gunshots outside the Streetsville Kinsmen Seniors Centre on Queen Street South.

First responders tried to revive Nicholson, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

There is no suspect information at the moment, police said.

"We know from 911 callers and other witnesses that there were a large number of people at this event. We are asking people to contact our homicide bureau with information. If they are not comfortable doing that, please call Peel Crime Stoppers," Const. Harinder Sohi told CP24 at the scene Sunday.

"There were a lot of people fleeing the scene on foot and in cars."

He added that it is unclear how many shots were fired.

"We are still processing the scene," Sohi said.

Police, Sohi said, are also trying to figure out how Nicholson got to the area.

"We are still trying to determine what the victim was doing here, whether he was involved in the event or not or whether he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time," Sohi said.

"We are still trying to determine who he came with and how he got to this location. That’s still part of our initial investigation."

Two other people were found suffering from gunshot wounds at Eglinton Avenue and Creditview Road, about two-and-a-half kilometres from the shooting scene, on Saturday.

One of those people has been released from hospital, while the other remains in hospital in serious condition. However police have not said whether their injuries are connected to the she shooting at the community centre.

Investigators are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information is being asked to call investigators at the Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau at (905) 453-2121, ext. 3205.
