ORILLIA, Ont. -- At least one Ontario boater is pretty thankful this long weekend.

Police say a 41-year-old Toronto man was in a five-metre vessel on Lake Simcoe on Saturday when it began having engine troubles and taking on water.

A civilian plane flying overhead called police with the boat's location.

The OPP marine unit, along with fire department boats from Orillia, Rama and Ramara Township, found the disabled vessel about half a kilometre from Strawberry Island.

The unidentified man, who was suffering from mild hypothermia, was taken to Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital and later released.

The boat was recovered and towed to a local marina.
