Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit says it has grounds to charge a Toronto police officer with assault causing bodily harm in connection with an arrest made in Dec. 2014.

On Dec. 13, 57-year-old Baoshi Yang was arrested by Toronto police in the area of Queen Street East and Tracy Street and subsequently released. He was later taken via ambulance to St. Michael’s Hospital for treatment, and diagnosed with a broken orbital bone.

After an SIU investigation, Toronto police Const. Paul Walker faces one count of assault causing bodily harm.

He will appear in court at 444 Yonge Street on July 8.

The SIU investigates any police incident involving death, serious injury or sexual assault.
