A 14-year-old boy from Toronto has died after being shot in Kingston, Jamaica, authorities in that country say.

A statement issued by Hunts Bay Police on Sunday said the teen – identified as Ricardo Williams of Scarborough – was found with gunshot wounds after people at a wake heard gunfire at around 1:51 a.m. local time. The boy was rushed to hospital, where he died of his injuries, police said.

According to the statement, police are seeking a person of interest known as Omar James, also known as ‘Judge,’ in connection with the fatal shooting.

Canadian officials issued a statement Sunday evening to say they are providing services to the boy’s family in Kingston.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the Canadian citizen who passed away in Jamaica,” the Department of Foreign Affairs said in a statement. “Canadian Consular officials in Kingston are in contact with local authorities to gather additional information and are providing consular assistance to the family as required.”
