A 38-year-old Uber driver has been charged with sexually assaulting a female passenger in connection with an alleged incident that occurred earlier this month.

According to police, the 19-year-old victim used the ridesharing service to order a pickup shortly before 1 a.m. on Dec. 10.

Details on where the woman was picked up were not provided by police.

After the woman was picked up, the driver sexually assaulted her, investigators allege.

A suspect was arrested earlier this month in connection with the case.

“No young woman deserves to experience what has been described and reported to police,” a statement from Uber provided to CP24 Monday afternoon said.

“We will continue to work with the Toronto Police Service to fully support their investigation, and the driver has been barred from accessing the Uber app.”

Orjon Leska, of Toronto, is charged with sexual assault.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 16.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-22000 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
