Environment Canada has placed the City of Toronto under a special weather statement ahead of what could be a hefty dose of winter weather for southern Ontario.

Parts of the GTA, including Halton Hills, Oakville, Milton, Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Pickering, Oshawa, and southern Durham Region, are included in the statement.

According to the national weather agency, a developing storm is expected to head toward southern Ontario tonight and into Sunday morning. The snow storm will likely hit regions near Lake Huron on Sunday morning and will move toward areas near Lake Ontario on Sunday afternoon.

London, Sarnia, and Brantford are expected to get about 10 to 15 centimetres of snow. Toronto, however, will likely only see about five to 10 centimetres.

The winter storm may also create some difficult driving conditions.

Environment Canada says that “in addition to the snow, winds will increase Sunday evening, reducing visibilities in blowing snow.”
