A 58-year-old woman from Toronto has been identified by police as the victim in a Brampton homicide that occurred over the weekend.

Kathryn Horne was found dead inside a residence on Nanwood Drive Sunday when officers responded to a disturbance call at the home around 12:35 a.m.

A man who lives at the home was arrested at the scene and police have since charged him. It’s not clear what relationship he has to the victim.

A lawyer for the accused said Monday that his client “is quite shattered with the charge itself.”

On Monday, accounting firm Ernst and Young confirmed that Horne was a longtime employee.

“Kathryn Horne was a valued and long-standing member of the EY team,” a representative from the firm said. “We thank you for respecting the privacy of her family, friends and colleagues during this very difficult time.”

The firm confirmed that Horne worked in client services. She was single, the company said.

Richard Pereira, 36, of Brampton, has been charged with second-degree murder in the case. He appeared in court March 29.
