Torontonians have had enough of the traffic congestion caused by summer street events, according to a recently-released poll.

A new Forum Research poll surveyed 1,182 Toronto voters and found that 55 per cent wanted marathons, parades and walkathons moved from clogged Toronto streets and expressways to city parks.

Only about a quarter of those surveyed said they did not approve of the idea to relocate the events and 22 per cent said they had no opinion.

"It is clear that the majority of Toronto residents have experienced the closed streets and blocked thoroughfares on a summer weekend that make getting around Toronto harder than it already is,” Forum Research President Lorne Bozinoff said in a statement.

“They see the utility of placing the multiple marathons and marches Toronto supports in parks like Exhibition Place or Downsview, where there is plenty of room and no traffic to impede.”

According to the poll, of those who said they supported the relocation of traffic-snarling events,  59 per cent said they were 55 or older, 60 per cent said they were college grads and 70 per cent said they supported the Ontario PCs in the last election.

The poll was conducted on July 2, 2014 and results are considered accurate plus or minus three per cent, 19 times out of 20.
