Mayor John Tory will hold a meeting with representatives from Uber and the city’s taxi industry Monday to try and find a way forward as the parties come to a head.

News of the meeting comes just days after a court dismissed the city’s application for an injunction against the ride-sharing service.

In the July 3 decision, the judge said that the city had failed to demonstrate that Uber is in violation of any existing city bylaws.

The city and the taxi industry had argued that Uber was operating an illegal cab service in the city.

Uber has maintained that it is a technology company that simply facilitates ride-sharing and hence is not a traditional cab service.

In a release Sunday evening, Alex Person of Co-op Cabs said he welcomes the meeting with the mayor.

“We've always said we welcome competition, but it needs to be a fair and level playing field,” he said. “It's high time we ease regulations for all and create rules that work for the entire industry.”

According to a copy of the agenda obtained by CP24, the meeting will take place at Toronto City Hall at 9 a.m.
