Come Sunday, it is going to cost a little bit more to ride the TTC.

The TTC fare hike officially comes into effect on March 1, impacting both the price of tokens and Metropasses.

A token will now cost TTC riders $2.80, a 0.10 increase, and Metropasses are going up by about $8 to $141.50. Day passes will now cost $11.50, a $0.50 increase, and cash fares will remain the same.

On the plus side, children 12 and under will be able to take the TTC for free.

The TTC board voted in favour of the fare hike earlier this month after Mayor John Tory announced a proposal to spend $95 million on additional service improvements.

During the campaign, Tory promise to freeze TTC fares but said he had a change of heart when he saw that the transit system had been “starved… to the breaking point.”
