The TTC says it is investigating allegations that an operator pushed a man off of a streetcar on Friday night.

TTC Communications Manager Susan Sperling said the alleged incident occurred on the 501 Queen streetcar near Kingston Road.

“The allegation was that the person was inebriated and that after a bit of a standoff, for want of a better term, the operator allegedly pushed the customer off the streetcar,” Sperling said.

The alleged assault came to the attention of the transit service after a passenger took to Reddit, saying he and a friend witnessed the incident. Sperling said the passenger also filed a customer complaint with the TTC.

At the time of the alleged incident, police officers were called to the scene and Sperling said the TTC is working with police as part of its investigation.

“Anytime police are involved we cooperate extremely closely with police,” she added.

Police say the man who was allegedly assaulted had no injuries and did not wish to make a complaint. He was then driven to his destination by the officers, Const. Jenifferjit Sidhu said.

TTC CEO Andy Byford told CP24 Wednesday that the driver will be interviewed this afternoon.

“Clearly we need to find out his version of events but at face value, I am very concerned about what I’ve heard,” he said.
