Two air ambulances were dispatched following a collision involving a jackknifed tractor trailer that closed a portion of Highway 403 in Mississauga Tuesday afternoon.

It happened just east of Eglinton Avenue at around 4 p.m.

Two patients were airlifted to hospital, and crews on scene were working to rescue a third trapped in a vehicle, Ornge confirmed.

The injuries to one patient are described as critical. The condition of the other two patients was not immediately known.

The cause of the crash and the number of vehicles involved was not immediately clear.

The eastbound express lanes of Highway 403 have been reopened at Highway 10. The eastbound collector lanes remains closed at Eglinton Avenue.
