One man is dead and another has serious injuries after a double stabbing in Mississauga early Saturday morning.

The incident happened in a McDonald's parking lot near Lakeshore and Cawthra roads at around 1 a.m.

Police say that they were initially called to the area for some sort of disturbance and found the two victims suffering from stab wounds immediately upon arrival.

Both victims were initially taken to hospital in serious condition, though one of them was later pronounced.

Police say they have not yet determined what the relationship is between the two victims.

“We are still trying to determine what exactly happened prior to the incident. At this point all we are aware of is that there was some sort of disturbance,” Constable Mark Fischer told CTV News at the scene. “It is still very early in the investigation.”

Fischer said that police have already spoken to a number of witnesses and are reviewing surveillance footage from the area.

He said that “all options are still open” when it comes to what happened.

“I believe there were a lot of people around. We have been interviewing witnesses and we are appealing to any more witnesses who may have left prior to talking to us,” he said.

The stabbing is Peel Region’s 14th homicide of 2017.
