A 23-year-old man has been charged with careless driving after a van collided with a transport truck in Meadowvale.

Emergency crews were called to Syntex Drive and West Credit Avenue just before 6 a.m. for a collision.

It took around 20 minutes to extricate the man who was trapped in the van, according to an official with Toronto Paramedics Services.

ORNGE air ambulance was called to the scene and transported the victim to hospital. He was initially listed as having sustained critical injuries to his upper body but officials now say he suffered minor injuries.

Sgt. Josh Colley alleged the driver of the van, a Mississauga resident, had alcohol in his system at the time of the crash.

The suspect now faces a charge of careless driving and was issued a three-day suspension of his driver’s licence.

Roads in the area were closed for several hours as police investigated but all have since reopened.
