Toronto police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting in Scarborough as a father of two from Afghanistan.

At a news conference Sunday afternoon, police said Abdul Monir, 31, had been in Canada since May.

Monir was shot at the pizza shop where he worked in the Lawrence Avenue East and Markham Road area shortly after midnight Sunday.

Paramedics found him at the store without vital signs and he was declared dead at the scene.

He had been working at the store for about two weeks prior to the shooting, police said.

Another man in his 50s was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries, EMS said. Police said Sunday afternoon that he had undergone surgery and is in stable condition.

Police say they are now looking for a suspect who fled the scene.

The suspect is described a black male in his 30s with a thin build. He was wearing a light-blue windbreaker and a black baseball cap.

Police say he was seen entering the passenger side of an older-model light-coloured four-door Toyota or Honda vehicle and that the lights may have been out on the vehicle.

The vehicle was parked a short distance from the scene of the shooting and was last seen travelling southbound, police say.

Anyone with information or footage is asked to contact police at 416-808-7400 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
