A WestJet flight has made an unscheduled landing in Winnipeg after an unspecified threat, the airline has confirmed.

In a statement provided to CP24, a representative with WestJet confirmed that Flight WS442 from Edmonton to Toronto had been diverted to Winnipeg.

“Following standard procedure in response to a threat,‪ ‎WS442, Edmonton to Toronto, has diverted and landed at Winnipeg International Airport,” Richard Bartrem, vice-president of communications with WestJet said.

“Guests and crew have evacuated the aircraft. Emergency responders are working with our crew to secure the site and ensure the safety of our guests and crew.”

The statement did not provide any information on the nature of the threat.

According to a tweet sent out by the airline, the Boeing 737-700 aircraft was carrying 54 guests and five crew members.

Six guests were injured during the emergency evacuation, the airline said. The severity of their injuries was not clear.

The passengers have been escorted to hospital by WestJet staff.
