Toronto residents should also be sure to have their rain boots and umbrellas close by today.

Showers are in the forecast today and a thunderstorm is also possible this morning.

A rainfall warning was issued for the city yesterday but Toronto saw significantly less rain overnight than the 25 to 50 millimetres that was previously expected.

"A dynamic disturbance crossing Ontario today gave a significant rainfall to parts of the province last night into today,"  a statement from Environment Canada read.

"Although there were several rounds of thunderstorms across many parts of southern Ontario last night, including the Greater Toronto Area, rainfall amounts were not necessarily higher because of the summer-like light show."

Environment Canada said Toronto saw about five to eight millimetres of rainfall between Sunday night and Monday morning.

Following a warm start to the day with a high of 8 C on Monday, the temperature is expected to fall to 5 C this afternoon.

The rain could also continue this evening, Environment Canada says.

According to the national weather agency, there is a 30 per cent chance of showers tonight.

Environment Canada previously issued a special weather statement for Toronto, Hamilton and parts of the GTA ahead of strong winds that are expected to hit the region later today but the weather advisory ended early Monday afternoon.

Torontonians will get a little break from the wet weather on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Sunny skies and a high of 7 C are in the forecast for Tuesday. Wednesday will see a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 10 C.
