A 57-year-old Whitby man is facing impaired driving charges in connection with a deadly crash near the Toronto-Markham border over the weekend.

It happened near Steeles Avenue East and Reesor Road shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday.

According to police, a 57-year-old man was driving a blue Ford pick-up truck westbound on Steeles Avenue East when he attempted to pass a Toyota Camry at the top of a hill.

The truck, police say, struck an eastbound black Honda Civic head-on in the eastbound lane.

The driver of Civic, identified as a 23-year-old female, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck and a passenger travelling in the Civic were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say Leroy Coore is now facing a number of charges in connection with the crash including impaired driving causing death, refusing to give a breath sample, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, and impaired driving causing bodily harm.

Police ask anyone with information about the collision to contact Det.-Const. Scott Matthews at 416-808-1949.
