The Toronto Wildlife Centre says it has finally been able to capture a sick coyote that was on the loose in Scarborough this week.

In a Tweet Thursday afternoon, the centre said the animal had been contained by the centre’s rescue team.

The coyote had been spotted by members of the public across Scarborough in the past week and wildlife officials had made several attempts to capture the animal.

Nathalie Karvonen, the centre’s executive director, previously told CP24 that the coyote posed no threat to members of the community but needed to be trapped so it could be treated for mange, a potentially fatal condition.

Mange, she said, may compromise an animal’s ability to hunt and can cause terrible skin infections.

The coyote was part of a Ministry of Natural Resources study and it is not clear how the coyote ended up in Scarborough.
