A 76-year-old woman was struck and killed by a car in central Mississauga on Wednesday afternoon.

Peel Regional Police said they were called to the intersection of Hurontario Street and Elia Avenue in the core of Mississauga at 12:54 p.m.

The woman was found at the scene with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead. Police said the driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene.

Police collision investigators closed Hurontario Street between Eglinton Avenue West and Highway 403 to allow for an investigation.
