Toronto police say an 84-year-old woman died of her injuries after she was struck by a vehicle in North York’s Willowdale neighbourhood Friday afternoon.

Police said they were called to the area of Finch Avenue West and Talbot Road at 12:20 p.m. for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

Paramedics said the victim was found at the scene with life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a trauma centre.

The victim, who police originally said was 70 but later corrected to 84, was pronounced dead a short time later.

Const. Allyson Douglas-Cook said the driver involved in the collision remained at the scene. She is cooperating with police investigators.

The front right hood and windshield of the Ford Escape SUV involved showed significant damage.

Finch Avenue West was closed in both directions between Madeline Road and Lorraine Drive to allow for the investigation. It has since reopened.
