A 52-year-old woman accused of spraying a toddler with an acidic substance at a Bloor West Village movie theatre on Saturday will appear in court on multiple charges today.

The incident occurred inside Humber Cinemas Theatre on the afternoon of Halloween as a three-year-old boy and his father waited in line for tickets.

Investigators previously said that a woman approached the child without saying anything and sprayed a burning substance on his neck and ears.

The boy was taken to hospital with minor burns.

The woman was spotted leaving the scene eastbound on Bloor Street West.

A detective on the case previously said the incident appeared to be a deliberate attack.

The chemical sprayed on the child has not yet been identified.

Police say Alverna Maria Lawrence was arrested on Wednesday and she has been formally charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, administering a noxious substance, carrying a concealed weapon and possessing a weapon dangerous to public peace.

She is scheduled to appear at the College Park courthouse at 10 a.m. this morning.
