A man is facing charges after police say a woman was told to perform sexual acts on customers at a spa where she worked.
According to investigators, a 19-year-old woman began a relationship with a man on Facebook in 2013 and in the spring of 2016, both decided to move to Canada.
When the woman started a job at a spa in Toronto, police say she was directed by the man to perform sexual acts on the clients to earn more money.
The woman, investigators say, was given a specific quota that she was required to meet and if she didn’t meet the quota, the man would allegedly refuse to allow her into their home.
Police also allege that the man physically assaulted the woman on multiple occasions and would not allow the woman out of his sight unless she was at work.
The man, police say, forced the woman to stay on the phone with him during her shift so he could listen to her while she was at work.
Eventually, investigators say co-workers noticed the woman’s injuries and contacted police.
The suspect is facing six charges in connection with the investigation, including trafficking in persons, sexual assault, and assault.
