A 45-year-old woman is dead and a 15-year-old boy has been sent to hospital with serious injuries after they were struck by a vehicle that veered onto the sidewalk after colliding with another car.

The two pedestrians were struck just north of Barber Greene Road. Toronto police Const. Victor Kwong said paramedics were trying to resuscitate the woman with CPR at the scene but the woman succumbed to her injuries before she could be transported to hospital.

One of the drivers was also sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The other driver stayed at the scene to speak with police.

Supt. Neil Corrigan with Toronto police 33 Division told CP24 that it's too soon to determine exactly what caused the two cars to collide in the first place, but that detectives are working through scenarios.

Police believe that an Audi was travelling south and attempting to turn left onto Green Belt Drive. It collided with a Saturn that was travelling north. The Saturn mounted the curb and struck the two pedestrians.

"It will take some time to determine what speeds were involved," Corrigan said.

Don Mills Road was closed between Wynford Drive and the Donway West for several hours to accommodate the police investigation. It has since reopened.
