Customers will return to Yorkdale Shopping Centre this morning for the first time since gunfire erupted in the mall’s parking lot.

Michael Nguyen, 23, was fatally shot in front of bystanders on Saturday night while a 24-year-old man was also wounded.

No arrests have been made in the shooting, which police have described as an “isolated” incident involving two groups.

Only restaurants at the mall were open yesterday as retailers closed as previously scheduled for the Easter Sunday holiday.

“Like all Torontonians, we were shocked and saddened with the incident that occurred outside Yorkdale in the parking lot on Saturday evening,” a statement released by the mall on Sunday evening said. “The matter is under investigation by Toronto police and we are cooperating with them fully as we take security very seriously in order to keep our customers safe.”

It is not immediately known if any additional security precautions will be taken in light of the shooting.

Reached by CP24 on Monday, a spokesperson for the mall declined to comment citing the ongoing police investigation.

Police looking for multiple suspects

Police initially said they were looking for five or six suspects in connection with the shooting, but on Sunday afternoon Det. Rob North would only say police are looking for multiple suspects.

Police have not released descriptions of the suspects, though officers were seen towing a grey Toyota Corolla that North described as a "vehicle of interest" on Sunday.
