BURLINGTON, Ont. - Halton police are seeking the public's help in tracking down a man who stole a dog from a 14-year-old girl in Burlington.

Police say the girl was walking her four-year-old dog named Jackson on Monday evening when she was approached by a man who asked to pet the dog.

Investigators say the girl was startled and kept walking, but the man persisted and began petting the Shih Tzu-poodle.

He then removed the dog from its leash saying "I'll take my dog -- this is my dog -- I lost him three years ago."

Police say the man picked up Jackson and walked briskly to a silver two-door car and drove off.

The suspect is described as 40 to 50 years of age, five-foot-three to five-foot-eight, pudgy, and scruffy in appearance.
